UNRAVELLING
PHOTOGRAPHY Michael West Gallery, Quay Arts, Isle of Wight Sat 6th May until Sat 10th June 2006 Daniel Boetker-Smith - Karen Grainger - Fergus Heron - Matthew Pontin The general notion of ‘unravelling’, put simply, means to pull apart or to investigate; this act is invariably methodical and leads to answers of one kind or another. This conception of unravelling is somewhat true for this show, but there is another kind of unravelling that exists alongside this first definition; a sort that is, if you will, a downward spiral, out of control and leading not to answers or clarity but to further confusion. This second kind is best described as an aporia, an interminable and irresolvable question. |

| Exploring
the Fal & Helford, The Fowey and The Red River delivered by CAN Project (Cornwall Artist Network) Several artists will be commissioned by CAN Project to explore and develop a body of work that responds to the three river catchments of The Fal & Helford, The Fowey and The Red River. Each artist will explore these locations and begin to understand these unique environments. This stage of the project will allow artists to make discoveries and build relationships with people that work and live by these rivers as well as experiencing the geography of the rivers. The work from these commissions will be published in a book supported by Cycleau and the knowledge obtained will form the basis to run community workshops in these areas. This will enable different social groups within each of the areas to explore a sense of place within their local environments, through creative processes and encourage the removal of social barriers by providing opportunities for the young, ethnic minorities and disadvantaged people to explore and express their sense of place within the environment through artwork |
